Stones of Matera
The Sassi of Matera are two districts of Matera, Sasso Caveoso and Sasso Barisano, formed by rock buildings and architectures carved into the rock of the Materan Murgia and inhabited since prehistoric times. Together with the Civita district, they form the historic center of the city of Matera
Cathedral of Matera
The Cathedral of Matera is located on one of the highest points of the city and of the historic center and is the heart of the Civita. From its small square it is possible to admire the entire Sasso Barisano from above. A point of view that will make you understand the concentration of cave houses better than others.
Museum of Peasant Civilization
The Museum-Laboratory of Peasant Civilization is an ethno-anthropological museum of Matera, located in the ancient Sassi district of Matera. The Museum was created by Donato Cascione and is managed by the homonymous cultural association.
